I’ve always been a bit skeptical of cleanses. I didn’t think they would make any difference, and based on earlier tries at using smoothies for meals, I didn’t think I could do it and not be famished all the time. However, now that I’m over 50, getting my weight down to an acceptable level has been trying at best. I’d gone back to my old standbys (Weight Watchers, counting calories, tracking nutrition, etc.) and nothing was making a difference. So I thought I’d give GW’s 21 day cleanse a try.
I will tell you that the first 3 days, for me at least, are not for the faint of heart. I probably should have cut back on caffeine before I started, and I’m not sure that was what caused my face to literally buzz in the mornings, coupled with some lightheadedness. It did go away after Day 3 and then it was much easier. As long as I followed the instructions implicitly, I was never hungry. In fact I stopped craving sugar and the empty carbs I’d been stuffing myself with. I was even ok with the Dandelion/Chicory replacement that you can have instead of coffee. The smoothies were great and the protein & fiber supplements didn’t upset my stomach like other protein powders have in the past. I enjoyed getting back to eating a variety of veggies and fruits and coconut oil is definitely my friend!
After Day 21, I had lost 12 lbs and honestly don’t crave the “bad” carbs and sugars I had been eating. Now I don’t eat anything that I can’t pronounce on the ingredient label and I’m more than satisfied with smaller portions. I lost an additional three lbs since I finished and expect to lose more, even with adding back some of the “forbidden foods” in moderation. I survived Thanksgiving cooking and dinner this week and didn’t feel the urge to gorge like prior years!

Howdy! Rachel from Phoenix here, just wanted to check in and let ya’ll know I’m still alive. Actually, I’m doing great. I have to admit though, what has been on the menu isn’t too far off from my daily eating.
I do love the recipes from Linda and all the other delicious insights from everyone. I’ll be saving these emails for a while! My vices tho are beer and french fries – gotta say, haven’t missed them one bit! I’m looking forward to making some ‘Turnip Fries’ on Saturday – yum!

The 10 day cleanse was a fantastic experience far exceeding my expectations. My experience with the Spring Cleanse has been amazing. Was it easy? No. But it was worth it. I feel a sense of accomplishment of doing something good for myself and a much stronger willpower to resist foods I know that are bad for me.
