Craniosacral Therapy or CST is a powerful form of Therapeutic Touch which, when employed by a Doctor, is a powerful form of health maintenance and a natural way to treat illness already present in the body.
CST in its essence involves gentle manipulations as the doctor both tests for restrictions and “listens” to the quality of the Craniosacral Rhythm, which is a strong indicator of the health of the patient. Much like the concept of Qi in Chinese Medicine, the Primary Respiratory Mechanism of the body can be cultivated, strengthened, and directed. It can be used to diagnose dysfunction, and when restored brings with it health. The forces used are exceedingly light and although the focus is in and around the head and spinal column, the treatment may be applied anywhere on the body.
Craniosacral Therapy induces a strong Relaxation Response (the opposite of the Fight or Flight Response) which activates the Parasympathetic Nervous System and helps the body heal and recover from injury and stress. The sympathetic nervous system, known as the “Fight or Flight” system, is activated by the constant stressors of modern of living and this can lead to chronic illness. This is referred to as Allostatic Loading and is responsible for 60-90% of office visits in a Primary Care setting.
Everything the body experiences is recorded in the tissue and may cause restrictions. These may then manifest as disease, dysfunction or poor healing, as the body’s own healing and self-corrective techniques are overwhelmed and therefore less efficient. When a restriction or lesion in the body is inhibiting the CranioSacral Rhythm, the Doctor will correct the restriction and restore flow.
Relaxation has long been valued for its healing and restorative effects on the body and encouraging deep states of relaxation in the body is easily facilitated by Craniosacral therapy.
Craniosacral therapy requires no equipment, only the gentle hands, and clear intention. Everybody can avail themselves of its benefits, all ages.
CST is performed fully dressed and does not use oils. Due to its gentleness and effectiveness, many people include CST as a component in their personal wellness programs.
Craniosacral Therapy works very well in treating many conditions, including the following:
